VIVIAN FARAHANI is a director based in Brooklyn.

Raised in Düsseldorf and the Bay Area, her work spans theater, opera, audio, and film in the United States and across Europe.

Vivian makes work that puts pressure on our inherited truths. She is driven by a belief that stories can bridge the personal and political; they bring big ideas into reach where we can challenge them. She is drawn to contradiction: in the text, in the world, in the space between what people say and what they mean. She is interested in the cracks of our reality, in how funny and sad it is to be alive.

Recent & upcoming directing work includes Sitara Ahangari's Dar Tarjameh (Live & In Color), Bella Cvengros's Trailer Treasure (Target Margin, Write Club PlayFest), Abigail Garcia's Jumping Off Point (The Tank, LimeFest), Lydia Riess's Going Away Party (IRT Theater, ALab), Gianna Hoffman’s Obit Play (The Tank), and Natalie Wright’s Otolaryngology (Concord OOB). She has assisted for directors including Leigh Silverman (Vineyard Theatre WIP), GT Upchurch (Red Bull), Simon McBurney (Festival D'Aix-en-Provence), Carolyn Cantor (24 Hour Plays: Musicals), Elizabeth Hess (LaMaMa), George R. Miller (Juilliard Opera), and Carl Forsman (UNCSA). She is a 24 Hour Plays: Nationals Alum and was a JPAP Directing Observer on Le Nozze di Figaro (Royal Opera House). 

As an audiobook director and engineer, Vivian has worked on titles for Hachette Book Group and Recorded Books with Audie-nominated narrators.
